  1. Hi

I just saw TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 with DivX Authoring.
Does Divx Authoring RE-Encode the video (xvid)?

    thanksss

  2. Of course it re-encodes the video. Xvid is not Divx.

It will re-encode anything you feed it including Divx.

It is most usefull encoding to Divx with Menus and Chapters for new projects which is what I use it for. The Chapters and Menus will only work on Ultra Divx players. I use a Phillips 5960.

It is also usefull to take WMV, Divx, Xvid and Mov, flv and others depending on your codecs and make a video with chapters and menus whether Divx or Standard DVD format is chosen as the output.

To put it another way it has become a all in one type of program as well as a DVD authoring program where you can feed in DVD ready files or AVIs for example and create custim menus and chapters as a .divx or standard DVD.

    Hope this helps

It does not necessarily re-encode DivX. I have it and there are certain DivX files which it accepts. It is not (yet) clear to me what the criteria are, though.

  5. I'm suspecting that the ones that work may have been encoded with Divx 6 and possibly a Home Theatre profile. I am just guessing of course.

In my case It is easier to just move on and use it for new projects and not mess with trying old files with it. If I wanted to do a old DVD project again I would go back to the DVD to let it import chapters and to be starting out with the best source rather than a previously encoded file.

But that is just me of course.
