MPeg2 is Mpeg2 at those extremes. Try MPeg1 if it has to work on a DVD player or Mpeg4 if it doesn't..

5.5 hours on one dvd?
that is a 1700 bit rate -- even at 1/2 D1 , that is pretty low unless the source footage is exceptional quality from non compressed source ...
at least to my taste ..
why not just split to 2 disks ?"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
i dont know much about mpeg1..but im more confident with working on mpeg2 (at good bitrates
) yeh....spliting onto two disks is a good idea but all the TV Serieses i buy in russia have about 10 videos at 40 mins each.... and the quality is good enough for watching....so do u think trying mpeg 1 is the best idea?

Unless you're using a DVD-9 MPEG-1 is your best bet.

i tried there and an error came up half way through encoding on a little video i tried,, i think that might be that my bitrate was too low.... what should be actual bitrate for mpeg1?

1700 to fit 5.5 hours on a dvd - as i mentioned above

oh yeh......forgot that u told me the bitrate........anyway im trying again......and what would be a better software for mpeg1 encoding BJ_M.....price doesnt matter

buy a dvd player that plays dvix, and encode to dvix not dvd specs
differet format different compression
put 5 or 6 hours on there..and it will look better than the same amount of time in mpeg
create a dvd data disc not convert to dvd disc
but it requires a new dvd player that plays both formats -
