  1. I had a cool idea that I could add to my site. I was thinking of taking a webcam and setting it up in a local automotive shop here in Madison. You could tune in from anywhere on the site and watch their progress during the day. This would have to be pretty easy to do. What are the different types of webcams out there and price ranges? Cap I know you've had some research into this since you started the membercam.
    1. Are there different types of cameras, ie ones that stream video and ones that just upload a new photo every few seconds? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? How do each of them update/transfer the video to the site?
    2. If I went with the one that updates photos every bit, how does it update? Can it be set to run from 9 to 5 and automatically ftp the images up? What is the interval that the images can be set to refresh at? 5 seconds?

Any other info you could provide about webcams would be great! Thanks!

  3. How would they work, does it transmit a video feed? Can I use them with my current shared hosting plan on Dreamhost? How much do they cost?

Could you fill me in on some more details? I tried looking at the site some but being on dialup here its hard to get much info out of it. Do they do both still motion updating and video streaming? How often can the still pictures be updated? Is it automatic? What price range are the cameras? Can they be set up to be publicly viewable online?

  6. IP cameras can using motion detection so it will record video or save snapshots when motion is detected in the video. You can FTP still pictures and display them on your website. You can use a javascript to update the pictures every 5 to 10 seconds (or however often you want). Price ranges are $75 and up. You can also display them publicly and you can also embed the video into your webpage.
