OK I need a good Capture program.

Premiere Pro won’t cap anything other than a DV input (IEEE1394)
VirtualDub v1.6.17 drops and adds frames no matter how configured.
iuVCR v4.15.0.379 creates video as seen through a pin holed screen.
    AVI_IO vC 03.24 doesn’t cap any audio.
    VirtualVCR v2.6.9.6252 Also no Audio

I like iuVCR and it seems to do the best job overall except for the screening effect.

Why is software half baked these days?

    Any ideas?

    Hi,
You might try CaptureFlux 5.2, I don't know much about nVidia Capture hardware though, I'm surprised that iuVCR isn't doing it for you, it's probably the best AVI capture utility out there, I'm curious, what Codec are you capturing with?? Are you certain the Pin-hole effect is in the capture or in the display??

As you can see in my system stats the nVidia based board uses a Philips 7108 capture chip. For some reason the "only" CODEC that's selectable in the capture driver interface is Microsoft’s UYVY CODEC (msyuv.dll). I have the Huffyuv.dll v2.1.1 installed and it shows up and is configurable via:

    "Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices\Hardware\Video CODECS\Properties"

Unfortunately it's not selectable from within the capture driver interface. I've noticed that its appearance varies from program to program.

I found somewhere that the CODEC used must be compatible with the chip in question. In an attempt to add the huffyuv codec, I’ve edited the registry and the capture drivers INF to include it. I haven’t re-installed the INF yet because I’m not sure I’ve covered all the bases (I have to analyze the INF a bit further).

While I’d like to use the huffyuv CODEC, that’s not at issue at this point; the fact that the individual capabilities of each capture utility listed above addresses another’s failing (if I could add their capabilities together they’d be perfect) is, and indicates that they are either each incomplete in terms of my system or un-tweakable due to my ignorance of their controls.

    Anybody have a clue?

    TIA

    P.S.

The problems listed per utility are complete.

    UPdate:

I finally got VirtualVCR to capture Audio. Since the M-Audio Delta 1010LT has 4 separate inputs and outputs I had to go into "Settings\Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices\Audio\Sound Recording" and select the appropriate set of inputs. For most software this is not necessary because I normally have the "Multi" (all 4 I/O's monitored) device selected. For some reason VirtualVCR couldn't address the "Multi" device, which is strange.

Of course I'd rather fix the pincushion effect that iuVCR delivers. Overall I prefer that utility. Maybe a filter would do the trick, but none are listed in the Filter tab and the buttons for filter control do nothing. Is anyone familiar with filter usage in iuVCR? I’m also thinking on replacing msyuv.dll with huffyuv.dll via the backup & rename trick.

    TIA
