    Good evening to everybody.

It was the first time I used VirtualDubMod to insert permanent subtitles in a TV episode with 349 MB.
I followed step by step the Guide of BALDRICK but at the end the final file has a length of only 109 MB.

Is this difference of lengths, original and final, comprehensible and acceptable? Isn't this great difference of lengths synonymous of a great loss of quality? I forgot to tell that the AVI was DIVX and I chose XVID because it didn't appear that first DIVX to select.

    Thank you for your help.

The video and audio bitrate decides the output file size. So if you want bigger file size = better quality then increase the bitrate or if you are using constant quality/quantizer then lower that value.

What video encoding/bitrate settings are you using? In virtualdubmod under video->compression and xvid and click configure.

In the meanwhile I waited an answer I installed DIVX Codec and I repeated the process. With this codec already inatalled the final file has now 209 MB a little better than before.
As you asked , in this last case, the bitrate is 784 kbps and the encoding preset is 3 (this last value is fixed).

    Thank you, Baldrick.

    Hi there.

    I followed this way Video - compression - (DIVX 6.8.5 Codec) - Configure - Bitrate (1448)

and I got I copy with 1448 kbps the same of the original.

Is this enough to get a copy with the minimum loss of quality?

Thank you and a good weak-end.
