  2. It depends of the properties of your source files (vob, avi etc). Different sources require different setings.
BTW the video in vob is already mpeg2.

TMPGEnc dvd author doesnt accept vob files-so i need to change them to whatever files it will accept.

Why does it matter what the file type is? you only have options of what you are changing it to, not what it was already?

I just remember from doing it last year that it has to be spot on or else TMPEnc doesnt accept it.

    Thanks for helping!
    Cheers

Good, well, in fact TDA accepts vob files if they are in dvd structure. If not (some kind of analogy with another program that does not accept vob) you can try to rename it .mpg. If then it is not working, you may repack them as .mpg with some mpeg editors: MPEGVCR or Womble. I personally would demultiplex them with rejig and add the elementary video and audio streams in TDA. Ah, there is also VOB2MPG, but I think it require DVD structure.

Because some compression implementations require more bitrate, some less. Then it comes in mind the resolution. Depending of the source resolution it might be advisable to use other than full DVD resolution to observe best possible quality (if you don't mind the quality all what you need is ConvertXtoDVD, or its free implementation DivXtoDVD, and then "Import DVD files in TDA)

Nah, there are a lot of other tools that are not so picky as TDA. GFD (I am using it regularly) for example.

Last Words. For whatever reason I simply did not take in account that you are using super - an application that is not very different from the quality of any other as Convertx or DVDFlick or ffmpeg. Then as you are in australia I would set the output to pal or NTSC depending of the input (PAL=25 fps, NTSC=23.976 or 29.97 fps) and a bitrate for divx/xvid source at 700 mb size should be 3x the bitrate of the original at least.

i converted a 920*528 25fps to mpeg2 using super, i left the frame rate at 25, I set resolution at 720*480 and video bit rate 6000,

CCE , and convertx accepted the file with, i used dgpulldown on the output from cce to change from 25fps to 29.97

the screenshot of supers setting are in this post
