  1. i have an amd xp 1700 (1.46ghz) 512mb of pc 133 ram, a 7200 rpm drive, and the drive is running ata 100 (or so it says).... why would i be encoding at 6-7 fps in flask? im encoding into mpg. im using windows xp, and cant figure out why it would be this slow. also i ripped a dvd using smartripper at 1.2x with a 12x drive.... it sounds to me like my drive is running really slow, any ideas? thanks

  2. Sorry if this post if of no relevance, but encoding DOES take a very long time! My normal desktop with 126MB RAM, 450MHz took more than 24hours to encode a whole movie. Of course I didn't finish it but I remember a few tweaks would help, but that was for TMPGEnc.

  3. Your encoding speed is slow with your CPU... Are you using the bbMPEG plug-in? That could be the cause as it isn't a very fast (or high quality) encoder...

Are you encoding to standard VCD? If so, I strongly suggest you get the Panasonic MPEG Encoder plug-in as it works quite well.

Or else, use the DVD2AVI method of ripping and frameserve to TMPGEnc. That method of encoding is generally faster.

As for your decryption speed, is DMA for your DVD-ROM drive turned on? Also, there was a post quite a while ago of adjusting some UDMA settings in BIOS helped speed up the decryption as well...

You should definitely be able to get the decryption speed to go faster. On my 8x DVD-ROM drive, I can extract generally between 3x-7x.
