I have Nero 7 Ultra, but never used the Back It Up feature; from past experience I feel that Nero is a great burner utility, but when they try to add additional features sometimes they don't work very well, such as video editing, capture, etc. Before I trust my hard drive backup to Nero, maybe some here have experience with it. Dependable? Can I back up to a separate, dedicated hard drive (which I will purchase for that purpose) and restore from that drive to my main C drive in the event of a disaster? ..Thanks

I have Nero6 and use the Back It Up feature, it does a pretty good job. Takes a little while when you do your first backup, but the following incremental backups aren't too bad. The data verification seems to take the longest time, but I want the data to be good, so I live with it.
I used to use a USB2.0 external drive, now I've got an SATA external enclosure, so that helps.

Thanks Ron... so, have you every actually had a major problem where you had to restore? Did everything come back true-blue?

Thanks Ron; so have you ever had a major disaster where you had to restore? If so, did everything restore back accurately?

Thanks Ron; so have you ever had to do a full restore after a major disaster? If so, how did it go? Seems that there aren't many folks that use Nero.

I use it for backing up data, mostly digital photos. I've never had a major failure, but I did try to restore some data when I first used it to check it out. Aside from the verification part of it, it's mostly a "copy and paste" type situation. It creates folders that have the backup job numbers, but the data in the folders is just like any other kind of files. I reckon you could copy and paste all the data from the backup drive to a new drive if the program didn't work.
The only reason I use it, is because it does all the "copying and pasting" for me once I make the job list and the incremental backups save time.
I have Acronis TI9, but for data backup, Nero seems to work better. Plus, I already had it. If I find something better, I'll use it. There are lots of backup programs available, many are free.

Thanks again, Ron; sorry for the duplicate posts!! I was at work, and those computers (I use the term loosely) are junk; sometimes there are hesitations, and I couldn't get the forum to post and I didn't think it was taking so I "tried again".
