Thanks to all who experimented before me and provided insight on these boards. I attempted my first DL backups yesterday and was very successful. Rather than trying a bunch of different tools and burning expensive coasters, I checked the boards to see what people were the most successful with.
Turns out, Ripit4me + IMGBurn + "Verbatim +R" medium = instant success, in my case. I'm batting 1000, having backed up "Star Wars" and "Cinderella Man" successfully. Thanks to the authors of the tools and those who have posted on this subject.

I was tempted to buy the Fuji media. It was cheaper and I was thinking, "Fuji can't be bad". But then I kept thinking about this forum and just sucked it up and bought the Verbatim... Yay!!
