    Hi,
I'm using version 0.0.9w Xvid mencoder to encode matroska files to play on Philips Divx player. This is the first time that the subtitles are not showing up.
Under Filters, I marked the VOB subtitles, track 0, Burn. Adjusted the positioning. Left everything else as is; font style does not respond anyway - it used to. There are no subtitle files .srt to load.
Whatever I try, the preview looks good but the finished product does not have subs showing up. And they cannot be retrieved using the remote. Funny thing is, the subs show up in the first part (prequel), but after the opening sequence, the subs stop showing up after that.
I downloaded the MKVTool for Mac but it keeps quitting.
I am on PowerPC G4, Mac OSX 10.3.9. Is there an older version of ffmpegX that would make this work better? Where can I download that please? Or has Matroska pulled a new one on us?
I've spent many hours trolling the forum and trying different methods before submitting this request. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

    Dolly-
I've been working on an application that will convert .ogm and .mkv files to a format that is dvd player friendly. I got tired of all the steps involved in converting these files to something my phillips 5960 could play so I thought I'd create a one step solution. If you want to try it, it's at:

    http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/27/830472/MoKgVm2DVD.zip.

It'll give you a list of all the video, audio and subtitle tracks in the .ogm or .mkv file. You can then preview selected tracks in mplayer to determine which you want to either convert directly into a .avi file or extract. Some of the functionality is limited. For example, if you want to burn/embed subtitles, only the mencoder default options are currently used, but maybe there's enough options to accomplish what you want.

Note, MoKgVm2DVD is still very much beta (probably more like pre-beta). There are no instructions or Read Me yet, but hopefully it's fairly straightforward to use. Any feedback, especially from a fellow divx player user, would be appreciated.

    Good luck.

  4. Hi Dolly,

I happened to read your difficulty with MKV files. I have tried ffmpegX 0.0.9u and it seems to be the only version that recognizes both mkv and ogm files. You may want to try it. BTW, have you tried the MoKgVm? Did it work for you because I could not get it to work...

    RioCreations-
If you provide more details (what didn't work, what system/computer you're using, ...) I'd be happy to try to fix the problem you experienced. I know others have had success with the program, but as I mentioned above, there are still bugs to iron out.

Note, when I originally responded to Dolly's post, it was from within the Mac video forum. My brain must have been on a time out, because I didn't notice that the post had been moved to the ffmpegx forum, which is probably not the appropriate place for a discussion of another video application. You can pm me or e-mail me at emmgunn@pacbell.net if you want to sort out what happened.

Hi, Thanks for your helpful input. Sorry for this late post: once the discussion got moved, I was not notified of any responses.

The one file that gave me problems was that the track would appear in the preview for the entire movie (in Mplayer). After converting it only appears in the first 5 minutes and disappear after the main credits for the rest of the episode. Maybe it is a one time fluke? Or they are using different track numbers. In the info box when converting, I see "skipping" lines a lot.

-Riocreations: if you still have ffmpeg.0.09.u available can you send that to me please?

    - mekronk: I am having problems w/Mplayer after the latest Quicktime update 7.1.5. Still able to convert to XVID but no longer can do preview. Will MoKgVm2DVD work on any other type of vewer? BTW your link is no longer valid. Thanks.

Major, is there anyway you can send me a link or the dmg for ffmpegX 0.0.9u. Maybe it can fix the subtitle problem I am experiencing w/ MKV files. I remember older versions worked well. Thanks.

When converting MKV files to XVID, this appears in the progress information:

[mkv] Warning: too many sublines to render, skipping
    line after line after line.....

    which means no subtitles

Downloaded MKVextract but it quits w/in a second after producing files with zero bytes.

Any helpful suggestions would really be most appreciated.
    Thank you.
