I am using Adobe Encore DVD 1.5.

With one transcode settings, the free space under the Disc tab is showing as 53MB. Assuming that I am ready to burn a DVD, Is this OK or do I need to leave more free space?

With another transcode settings, automatic setting, the free space under the Disc tab is showing as 3MB. Is this OK or do I need to leave more free space?

Can you provide more information? For example, what would be bad about having a free space of 3MB? Also, how much free space should I have or should I want?

Couln't I just fill up most of the DVD? The disc tab says 53MB free space remaining for the DVD (not hard drive). I looked in help and it says that free space does not effect quality.

Is there a reason for leaving free space? What would be the effect of leaving about 50MB free space?
Should I worry if I only have 50MB free space?

Skips, pauses, overall a borked disc @ the end. There tends to be less precise dye coverage @ the edges, or so I think that's the usual arguement.

Now if you have a quality burner and use quality media, you can get away with "only" 50MB free. For example, my NEC 3550A with good media (ie: Taiyo or Verbatim MID codes) I have no problem coming up with good burns all the way to 4.35-4.36+GB..

With some Fuji branded Ritek G05s, I have had tons of bad discs, about 1/2 (or better) out of a 100 pack have had trouble over the ~4.20GB range (or earlier and issues all through a lot of discs as well not just the end)..It's taken me forever to get through this spindle - nothing important has gone on these burns -- never again will I buy an ad 'special' spindle just because I need them, at least not without knowing before hand what I'm buying. I normally buy MCC or TY MID codes, under various re-brands, but this time I was in a hurry - and paid the price .

Thanks for the information. I will now leave more free space.
I have a Plextor PX-716UF DVD burner and Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8X discs.
