    When I start the DVD creation phase in TMPGEnc there doesn't seem to be an option to prevent the video output from creating a preview frame every few seconds - is it possible to turn this off (with the aim of speeding up the process)? I can't see an option to do so.

    I doubt you would get much if any speed increase. It isn't creating a preview frame so much as displaying one of the frames it is creating anyway.
