Use a better dvd authoring tool like tmpgenc dvd author. Latest version can also convert from xvids avi. But you could still convert with converxtodvd and then import the dvd in tda to make menus, chapters, etc.

    Update:

ok i overlooked it and managed to import the dvd video files i converted in vso convertxtodvd

although it asks me to resave the dvd files again, and also after creating chapters it takes a bit of a time to build, am i losing quality doing this conversion or whatever it is? (in tmpgenc)

why would i convert in vso then again in tmpgenc; is what i dont get

TDA is an authoring application. It won't (or should not be) re-encoding the files from ConvertXtoDVD, however it does have to rebuild the DVD structure based on your menu and chapter points. If it also de/remuxes you could be looking at 20 - 30 minutes.
