I just purchased the Magnavox MWD 7006 from Wal-Mart (for $40) and I am very disappointed. Every AVI I play on it is cropped on all sides by black (some more than others). Is there a player that can play AVIs and make it fill up the entire screen? Wal-Mart also has a Philips player (for $50) that supports DivX, does anyone know if this player can play AVIs that actually fills up the entire screen? PLEASE HELP!!!

Mostly it comes down to player settings. I have an LG that plays all widescreen material across the full width of the screen in 16:9 mode, but plays 4:3 material in a letterboxed frame in 16:9 mode, so I have to switch it to 4:3 mode to fill the screen.

I tried to switch player display to 4:3 Letterbox and 4:3 Pan & Scan and it did nothing (still cropped on all sides). I have a widescreen TV could that be the problem?

Let's get terminology correct - cropping means cutting off some of the video. Borders are a different matter. If the player is cropping then it should be returned or thrown out. However there is a difference between actually cropping, and losing image area to overscan - see the glossary for details.

If you have a widescreen TV then you should have your output set to Widescreen or 16:9 at all times. Widescreen material should fill the screen from side to side, although not always top to bottom. 4:3 material should fill the screen top to bottom, but not side to side

    Guns1inger is right.
If you have wide screen TV, than go to DVD setup and change output to Widescreen(16:9). Even than not all movies will cover all of the screen, because they are made in different aspect ratio (16:9=1.77) most movies are 1.86 or higher. You will, in that case, get black border on top and bottom of the screen.
On top of that TV itself has a screen adjustment, check the TV manual.
