    Is it possible to convert a backed up HD DVD movie to .mpg or .TS file? I play a lot of these files through my xbox 360 via media centre. Also, is it possible to convert 1080p to 1080i? My 360 won't play 1080p mpg or ts files, I am connected to a 720p/1080i plasma via component and they just won't play. Some have said on this forum that they should play but they don't, only 1080i or 720p.

    Everything is possible...but you wont see any easy hddvd to mpg 1080i tool for a while. See https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=323663 and instead of converting to x264 use a mpeg2 encoder with hd support like hc encoder.
