  1. I have recently changed the superdrive of my G5 with a Pionner 112DL (not flashed) and I discovered with surprise that VLC ( ver 0.86) cannot reproduce disks of different regions (Region 1 , 3 etc) as in the past. By default the drive is set to Region 2 and once you insert a Region 1 disk VLC freezes.
    I don't know if I have missed something the last year with VLC development but I am sure that the program was able to play whatever, independently of the flashed superdrive.

    Any suggestions will be very welcome.

    Actually, it is not the case that the player software can overcome all forms of region control. The firmware in the drive itself can easily override things. I don't know if this is the problem in your case specifically, but you may wish to see what firmware upgrades are available for your burner.
