    Hello.
I can't get my 20" iMac G5 iSight to read the DVD-R's burned on my iBook G4 or my Panasonic DVD Recorder (finalized DVD-R's). The iMac burns and reads it's own discs no problem but if I take the same files and burn them on the iBook it won't read the disc. It tries to read for about 30 seconds then spits it out with no explanation.

The iBook is using Fuji Inket Printable 8X DVD-R from a 100 spindle. The Panasonic DVD Recorder used another brand (I'm not sure which).

Is this a disc problem or hardware problem?

If it's the brand of disc can someone please tell me what's most compatible with the newer iMacs? I'm used to a PowerMac G4 with plenty of RAM and 2 Superdrives (8X & 16X) and it's NOT picky with discs. Both the iMac and IBook have only 512 MB of RAM -- could that have anything to do with it?

    Thanks!

More than likely brand of discs and brand of SUPERDRIVE in the
    iMac G5.

Report back from Apple System Profiler what type of
Superdrive is in the iMac G5. Chances are it is Matshita,
and this will be the culprit.
Most G4's used the excellent Pioneer drives
which would take on all comers of media,
except maybe Memorex and CompUSA brand ( IMHE).

Terry the iMac G5 has a Pioneer 8X DL Superdrive in it so I'm surprised it won't play those discs. My iBook is the one with the Matshita 8X superdrive which I've had no problems with.

My Pioneer superdrive was doing the same thing, it ended up that it was dying and needed to be replaced.
