Are there third party power adapters for Dell notebooks, or are they only available from Dell? What's least expensive source for Dell notebook power adapter?

Check out whether the Targus power adaptors include a tip for your model. Broadly distriuted they do go on sale periodically. About $75.00

  3. What model power adaptor, we actually stock them here in NJ and they're $69 to $79 for Dell branded ones.

Not trying to sell you one as you can find them cheaper on Ebay...

Just giving a price comparison for your edification.

One thing about the universal ones they tend to stick out more than the stock ones and put more of a strain on the laptops port.

Are you sure the supply is bad? We often see where it is broken solder connections in the laptop. FWIW Thinkpads seem to be sturdier that way.

The LED doesn't come on which seems to indicate it's a bad adapter. I found 1 for my Inspiron 600m for $40 at http://www.parts-people.com/ which seems to be a good price compared to prices given here.

  5. FWIW I have a Dell laptop (Latitude) and the power cord went bad -- not the adaptor, just the cord from the wall to the adaptor. I work for a college so I figured this out by switching cords and adaptors until it worked, and lo and behold, just a bad cord. So that may be worth a look, before you replace the entire adaptor.

A good universal with interchangeable tips for only $30 (or $40 refurbished - go figure ). Go to http://www.igo.com/ to check compatibility.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
