hey so im a newbie to conversion stuff

    BUT....so

i have this avi file..i wanna play on dvd

first i converted it via 'SUPER' then learned to vobedit and ifoedit it via balzak....then burned it with intervideio dvdcopy5......tried to play...and dvd_player said disc is unplayable

THEN...i researched more here and saw a post for convertXtoDVD which looked cool and got me a lot closer to my final result....BUT..when i tried to play it worked until it kept on freezing on different scenes...seemed unspecific about what froze it..and it took bout 10 sec for dvd player to just turn off...so as to reset

i have emerson dvd player which is a cheap one..so that could be easy excuse but it has no probs on burned or reg dvd's so unless ConvertTOxDVD is just lame burner then there are other prob's (i think)

    thx in advance

Which DVD media are you using? That would be my first suspect with those type of problems. Not all DVD media is created the same. And even some good DVD media will work perfect on some burners and players and not on others. If you look to the left for 'DVD Writers', you will see what others recommend for that burner. The same goes for DVD players. Better quality media will burn and play properly on more machines.

ConvertX usually does a fair job of conversion. But there may be a problem with your original file if the media is not the problem. And if you are just burning a DVD file, I would recommend ImgBurn.

    And welcome to our forums.

well i've been burning stuff for a while and i've done the research on those two categories

i use a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-812S to burn with and Taiyo Yuden's as media, so if hardware is going to be suspect i could only blame the dvd player (Cheapie Emerson) but it has never gave me any probs for 2 years so I'm reluctant to say that.

Another weird thing about the burn was that the audio was really really high..i had to put tv on second lowest setting, which is about 15 lower than normal.

As far as burning went ConvertXtoDVD did that, should i use a different app?

    Ok
Glad to have found these forums, seems like a lot of good info and ppl here

I would use ImgBurn to burn the disc, although ConvertXtoDVD ships with a cut down version of CopytoDVD embedded in it.

The latest versions of ConvertxtoDVD have a gain control to help with volume issues when encoding
