  1. Computer: G5
    Decks: Panasonic DVC-Pro (AJ-D230H) ... and ... Sony UVW-1800 BetaSP

Situation: Capturing from Beta to Avid.

    =====
I'm able to connect my Beta Deck to my DVC-Pro deck (via BNC cables) and output the DVC-Pro Deck into my G5 via Firewire and capture Beta's fine. I even have deck control with the KeySerial cable.

Since I upgraded from AvidXpress Pro 4.8 to 5.6, there is no longer any audio feeding into Avid. I get picture, no problem. The DVC-Pro shows levels, but not in Avid.

This is what I get for upgrading my Avid!!!!!

    What happened?????? I need audio!!

    Just a wild guess...

Maybe the upgrade did a reset of the audio configuration to factory? defaults.

Check to make sure it sees your card/BOB...

Check Analog vs. Digital in and Analog XLR vs. RCA and Digital AES vs. SPDIF ,

Check to make sure DAE drivers/components are where they should be.

  3. I'm not sure I even changed any audio settings to capture betas.

If I pop a tape in the DVCPro tape in the deck, no audio, if I hit play on the DVCPro deck, the tape begins to play on screen instead of the Beta Signal ... and I get audio perfectly.

Weird! I don't want to resort to Final Cut JUST to capture betas.

So, you're saying you use the DVCPro deck as a A-to-D passthrough for the Beta (in addition to being able to use the DVCPro for itself)? This goes into the computer via Firewire...

Sounds like your DVCPro deck is at fault, not the software. If you're doing passthrough, you shouldn't have to have a tape in there (although some do, and have to press [RECORD] but not [PLAY]). You should be able to put it in E/E and have things pass freely.

Or, Xfer all your Betas to DVCPro 1st, then capture to computer.

Or, get a dedicated Canopus box (ADVC-300 or ADVC-700, for the component, XLR, and RS442 connections), and connect it to the Beta. Then switch between the DVCPro and the Canopus when you ingest.

  5. The Beta Deck is connected to my Line-In on my DVCPro Deck (which I switch from Option to Line-In) and I was able to capture Betas just fine. Since my Avid upgrade, I only get video, and no audio.

The DVCPro Deck SHOWS audio levels coming in ... technically I could dub the beta's to DVCPro tapes and just capture then from DVCPro into Avid, but that's dumb. Why have a patching bay then.

Some how, Avid doesn't recognize the audio, only the video ... and my mixer and DVCPro decks pick up both Audio and Video.

I read on an Avid forum that it's a bug from the upgrade. Weak.
