Hello, I'm a rookie that some months ago downloaded FFMPEGX, I saw how good is this program and becomes my favorite video converter (handly, easy to use, no need to know a lot about video codecs and compression to work with it, just a great video and audio tool!).

Now, the reason of my post: I recently was turning my old videotapes and VCDs to DVD; ffmpegx makes exactly that I was searching a long time ago, to create semi-DVD (352x240 pixels) mpeg2 files, that because I use DVD Studio Pro and it only acepts 640x480 and 352x240 NTSC MPEG2 files (my DVD and TV set are NTSC so I can't ever think about use PAL outside the computer). My first thinking was 640x480 is not necessary if my VCD file (320x240) is almost a 352x240 file. I test the program with a SVCD file (480x480 pixels) created with Toast Titaniun 7 and works just fine (the ending file format was a perfect 352x240 MPEG2 file that DVD Studio Pro can import and build on my DVD ), and later that I test another formats too (.flv, .mov, .mp4...).
At this point all thinks are ok, but then, I try to convert a random VCD file (320x240) and the final file was a 320x240 pixels MPEG2 file that DVD Studio Pro rejecs, I think "Ok, I can't live without this one" but when I try to convert another Toast SVCD file, surprise!, the same kind of 320x240 MPEG file that DVD Studio Pro rejects .
First of all, I check the output options, try to compress again with the presets and with custum parameters, just the same than the last one, 320x240, not more 352x240 suitable for DVD Studio Pro .
After that I think a little bit, "maybe some preference config file could be overwriting the presets and customs option" (I'm not a programmer but I believe that to resolve some problem you not need to bothering around a forum shouting "the program just do not work" when maybe yourself forget to put a file somewhere the library o accidentally you change something, the pressures of the work and home sometimes can be the first "bug" when you run a new application) so I delete and reinstall all the files again. Another test with a fresh DVD 640x480 NTSC fie and just like the fist one, the result is 320x240 MPEG2 rejected on DVD Studio Pro.
What can I do?, I feel sad because ffmpegx was my last hope (sorry Obi Wan, you can't save my galaxy with your laser saber), I read a lot of post on the forum but appears that this problem has never happen before (there is a lot about PSP and DVD aspect ratio questions, but nothing exactly like this one). I appreciate a little help if someone had time to give me a hand, thanks.
If any technical info to check this problem is needed please ask to me, I don't care to search around all my computer, I'll give it to you, by the way, the FFMPEGX version that I download is 0.0.9x, I'm running Mac OSX Panther 10.3.9 on a PowerMac G4 Thanks again.

Just some comments more: Why I want to use semiDVD if I have SVCD from Toast?, well, because I want to use the maximum capacity of my DVDs, and because I dislike the Toast DVD Menus, DVD Studio Pro let me to work with titles, chapters, subtitles and custom menus. that's the why
It's worth to being my friend... no matter that I'll betray you.

  2. You should make sure that the correct image size is set -each time- you convert a new file, and just before you press the "Encode" button.
