Hay
A question. Is it possible to use you mini dv camcorder as a moniter for recording. By this I mean, rather than record your subject(s) to mini dv first and then transfering to the comp via fire wire, is it possible to put a tape in the machine, put it on pause record and record the source stright to hard disk via firewire. So to put things in perspective u would be using the camcorder as a "dazzle dv bridge". Any comment PLease

There's a feature in digital camcorders, called 'ANALOG PASSTHROUGH',
which does the very thing. And you don't have to 'PAUSE' the thing.
Check your cam's manual, if your cam model has the feature. -
So you mean use the camcorder as a converter..... I'm not sure if the put the tape in and press record and pause will work. But many mini dv camcorders do allow you to use the camera as a converter. On my sony its just a matter of selecting the right menu options and connecting the proper cables.

oooppps, sorry about that. I didn't quite get it...until after reading it again.
So you want to directly record to your HD what you're seeing in the camcorder, and not recording to tape first. The problem is that REC/PAUSE has a limit of 5 minutes I think, that if PAUSE is not released within that span, it'll automatically 'STOP'. You might want to look into your cam's features a little more, to get around this thing.
again, sorry for my first post/reply.
