After I explained how long video work takes on an 800Mhz G4 PowerMac with a 40GB hard drive, my publicly-funded employer has just bought me a Mac Pro, 2.66Ghz Quad Xeon with 2GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.
Yes, it's an idle boast, gratuitous even, but I am looking forward to all the ripping, rendering and exporting tasks discussed in this forum taking minutes instead of days.

I work at a university, and teach in Asian Studies. Anyhoo, I have taken to using digital video in teaching and research very heavily, and the old G4 PM just couldn't cut it.
Ironically, there's nothing that the Mac Pro does that the PowerMac can't, it just does it about 30 times faster.Go off and rule the universe from beyond the grave. Or check into a psycho ward, whichever comes first, eh?
