This may be easy for some, but not for me. When I connect my Canon GL-1 to my Mac Pro via fire wire - nothing happens on the Mac. When I open the LCD screen on the camera (in VCR mode) it says "DVR in". I went through the menu on the camera to see if there is a setting for In and Out, but no luck. The Canon website says I do not need to download a driver for this camera with a Mac. If I could actually edit the videos I have taken for work and at home, I would like video. Currently however, the frustration has me hating video. I want to like it. If anyone can help, I would be much obliged.

This can definitely be very frustrating, and I feel your pain. I haven't used a GL in a while, but hopefully I can help a bit. First, as a general rule, make sure you have the camera attached and turned on before you open Final Cut.

Inside FCP, open the Audio/Video settings in the FCP Menu. Set the settings to what you see in the box here. The important one is using 'FireWire NTSC Basic' and not 'NTSC FireWire'.

If those don't work, it may be an issue with firewire itself, such as a bad cord, or a bad port on the computer or camera (my firewire port blew out on a Canon XL1). See if you can get a different DV camera, even a cheap one, and try capturing with that.

    Good Luck!!
