I was mucking around and decided to try my hand on producing a DIVX video w/ gordian knot using the DIVX 5.1 codec. In the past I captured Independence Day from a vhs tape to DVD compliant MPG2 video: 720x480 29.97 8.00 mbps. I decided to turn the DVD I made into a DIVX disk. The AVI plays fine on my computer - it renders fine in G-Spot. My guess at this point (since I have never had any problems playing other DIVX disks) is that the AVI that I produced is non-compliant. I have a divx of the first installment of Lord of the rings. It fits on two CD-R's. I tried making independence day the best quality I could. I made it to fit on one DVD-5 disk. My video is a bit over 4 gigs. Here's the info that G-spot says about my AVI. Thanks in advance!!!

First - your player do play AVI, right?
Did you use the stand alone compatibility mode in AutoGK? Seems OK - No qpel, no GMC.
Besides this, only 2 things that I can think of, is that the AVI is too big. There is some 2 GB limit fom many players IIRC.
And really, 3820 kbps is insanely high - may also make the player choke. I've never seen a DivX above 2000, most are around 1000

Mats, thanks for the quick reply, A friend of mine gave me a DIVX copy of Lords of the rings. That is a long movie and it was encoded to fit on 2-CDr's. I took a movie and blasted it out to 4gb's. I used the regular GK. not the auto. I'll download autoGK and re-encode tonight and learn what I should have used for settings to make it compliant. Thanks!
P.S. "Insane" settings are great!!! As long as they work -
I downloaded AutoGK - And for sure 2gb is the max size. Of course, though my wife never uses my computer unless I hit the "encode" button on any software. Go figure! I have AutoGk set for the 2gib limit and I have it set to MTK standalone compatability mode. I'll give it a rip tonight. Thanks!
