That and 90% of the stuff out there.

Hell, Epson still hasn't made an XP driver for their "Perfection" 636U scanner. Still waiting Epson (you #^^#%&!@!%#@# foo). BTW I haven't bought anything Epson since and have advised others to avoid Epson.

I have a PX-M401U and I was forwarned by the VISTA upgrade advisor that the device had no compatibility info although interestingly it said that the Plextor USB was okay but I think that is normal with a multi-level driver install device like the M401U. Since I have the option of putting back on another XP system I have, I'm not devastated by the lack of support. As a number of people have said, if you live on the bleeding edge, don't expect that you will have a lot of company or support. The business models of most of these hardward vendors doesn't give them a lot of money to put on re-engineering device drivers. That's the one thing I like about LINUX and Open Source, there's always somebody working on a device driver for a legacy piece of hardware.

  6. Wierd thing for me though. I installed XP to a dual partition and installed the Plextor once again, however it doesn't work on XP anymore now either!! Everytime the driver installs, when it completes, it says that everything went fine, but the orange light on the plextor that says ready to record shuts off right after this sequence and won't work Any ideaS?

I bought a new computer right when XP first came out and had them put one of the fastest Plextor cd drives in it that they made. It gave me all kinds of problems. Finally after a bunch of calls to Plextor, they admitted that it doesn't work with XP and they have no plans for drivers that would make it work.

Epson, Plextor aspire to be THE NAME for most users yet when it comes to proving it they just piss on those who feed them.
