  1. Hi all,

I searched through the forum but couldn't find exactly
    what I am thinking about.

I don't know much about DVD-R/RW discs but I've been
thinking... Wouldn't it be possible to burn a large SVCD
mpeg (~3GB) as SVCD but on a DVD-R/RW disc? I mean,
burn it as you do a standard SVCD but just use the larger
storing capacity of the DVD-R/RW disc?

Have anyone tried this? Or does the DVD players recognize
the DVD-R/RW for what it is and so make it impossible
to burn anything else than DVD data?

Just a though, would be happy if someone could straighten
    out my questionmark!

    Thanks for reading

    /Snulle

  2. This is like the inverse of the miniDVD concept. Firmwares that use the media type to determing playback mode (most) will not accept such a disc.

  3. I don't think it is even physically possible to burn tracks on a DVD...

However, you can obviously author a DVD onto recordable DVD media.

SVCD spec. MPEG-2 files have a framesize of 480x480/576 and that isn't actually allowed on a DVD. However, you can use 352x480/576 though...

Furthermore, your audio will have to be sampled at 48 kHz.

That is, if you are going from an existing SVCD, there are a number of hurdles that you must face (framesize and audio sampling rate). However, if you are intending to do a rip or conversion, there is no reason why you can't encode your video clip into something acceptable according to DVD specs.

For more information on DVD, search for "DVD FAQ" with Google.

    Regards.
