What I find for that: "VGZ format is music data from SEGA hardware." It sounds like some sort of game audio file.

More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGM That appears to be a Gzip compressed file of a VGM audio file. You may be able to play it back with WinAmp with the proper plugin.

Did you use this plugin with WinAmp?: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=133560

I'm just guessing with all this. I've never ran into that type of file.

    EDIT: From the Wikipedia link:
.vgz is used in order to launch a VGM player (eg. Winamp with the proper plugin) and not a data compression program such as WinZip or WinRAR.

At a guess, a zip compressed file.

    Try Winzip, 7-zip, etc.

If you look at the first few bytes of the file in a text editor, what do you see?
That's often a clue, sometimes even the program name.
