  1. Hi, I'm not sure where to put this question so I decided it should go on this forum. My problem is that I have a bunch of vob, ifo, and bup files and i compiled it to a dvd disc using nero. The disc plays fine, but it won't let me skip chapters (the karaoke songs). Also, it has no menu so I would like to make one for chapter selections. Thank you!

Did you insert chapter points in Nero ?

BTW, most likely Nero would have wanted to re-encode your source, so it probably isn't the best choice IMHO to do your authoring in.

I like TMPGEnc DVD Author, which (last time I checked) has a 30 day fully functional trial and can do the basics like creating chapter points and menus pretty easily. The difference is that your sources have to be pretty close to dvd-compliant before you start authoring.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Thanks for the help jimmalenko! No, I didn't try inserting chapter points in Nero. I've used TMPGEnc DVD Author and it worked quite well. I'm experiencing some trouble now though. After I burned everything fine, I played it on my DVD player and here the problem starts. My phillips dvd player in the room with my mitsubishi dlp displays the video not at 16:9 like it's suppose to, but instead it displays it at half. For example, the ratio seems more like it's at 16:4.5 for some reason. It would display the total length of my tv, but half the width of the screen. Totally weird. When I play it downstairs on my 4:3 tv, the display is at 4:3 and everything is fine. I used 3 different programs to author so I'm not sure whats wrong? Could it be the vob files are not 16:9? Or could it be my differerent DVD players are the problem?

My other question is that is there a quality difference in visual if I burn my karaoke files (vob ifo bup) using different softwares like Nero or TMPGEnc? I want to have the best quality. Thanks a lot!

Your post is confusing as it sounds self-contradictory...

You've got IFO, VOB, BUP files. This means they ALREADY been authored (not by YOU?)

You AUTHOR? them with Nero. No. I'm guessing "compile" is just "adding files to data disc burn session".

    You want chapters, correct AR.
But YOU didn't author them, so you're stuck with however somebody else chose for the settings.

Until you extract the raw MPEG/AC3/etc elements and RE-AUTHOR (using your app of choice), and MANUALLY apply chapter marks, AR settings, etc, you'll continue to have problems with output not matching your expectations.
