I have a broadband connection with tiscali, and I currently connect to the internet using the USB supplied modem. I have an Actiontec Wireless-Ready DSL Gateway (Model # R1524SU-1) which I now want to use. I’ve run the installation disc, set all parameters, as per those on the ISP website. The router status shows that it is connected to the internet and the computer shows I’m connected to the router via the Ethernet cable. Despite this I can’t access the internet. Neither explorer our outlook detects the connection. Any ideas?

most likely you have conflicting ip addresses or the 'dns gateway' is not set properly...

    possibilities:
modem and router have same ip address.. change one
modem keeps ip address assigned to you from isp, and passes a 'generic' to computer (192.168.0.1).. this may be same address of router
if modem assigns you a generic address (this is a firewall) you may need to set router's dns gateway to ip address of modem

using ONLY the modem, is computer's ip address a generic or not? (if not, say 'not', please don't post it!...)
I am just a worthless liar,
    I am just an imbecil
