This is a question regarding standard audio-cd's. I've noticed that on some cd's, my cd-player will count down to the next track (-3, -2, -1, 0 - play!) Typically this countdown is silent. I stumbled across how to make my own silent count down in Nero. When viewing the properties of a track, you can set the 'delay before track starts' or something like that. By default, it's set to 2 seconds per track. I'm fine with all of this, and it works just fine... But then I came across a cd that has little snippets of audio between each track. This audio is playing while the time is counting down to the next track - seemingly IN the delay before the track. How can somebody go about doing this? Is there another audio burning application that has more options regarding transitions/delays before tracks?

    Thanks!

#1 You'll have to burn these in Disc-At-Once mode (DAO), not Track-At-Once (TAO) which probably is the Nero default

#2 It's a whole lot quicker and easier to use a Cuesheet editor for something like this. CDRCue http://www.dcsoft.com/products/cdrcue/ makes this real easy. Then, if you really want to burn using Nero, you can [Burn Image] in DAO mode.

#3 This kind of track setup makes use of the PRE-GAP. For EVERY cd track, there should be 2 index points (ID0 which is the start of the pre-gap, and ID1 which is the start of the "music").

Normally, those TAO or other "silence" settings just tell the burner to automatically insert digital silence (00000s) for the length of the pregap. Or if music should be seamless, back-to-back, the ID0 is hidden/overshadowed by the ID1 at the same instant (for all purposes, it's "missing").

What you want to do is have the start of the "music" be, say 10 sec. into the WAV file. Then you set your ID0 to be the start of the file ("applause"), and your ID1 to be 10sec. This way, if you put the player in "shuffle" mode, it will skip the applause and go right to the music. It'll also do that "counting down" thing.

BTW: Don't F@#k with the Pre-gap of the 1st track EVER. Leave it as 2 sec. Your disc probably won't burn, or probably won't be playable if it does burn.

CDRCue is shareware, but you can temporarily use it for free if you don't mind not being able to save and edit your cuesheets.

There are also a few other CUE editors that ARE free. Do a google search.

Or you can always use Notepad, as a CUEsheet is just a text document. Learn what text to put, and you can do it all by hand even.
