I got a cheap brand of DVD+R for christmas and everything has been burning fine. But I ran out yesterday so I picked up some Magnavox DVD-Rs to replace them and for some reason nothing will burn on to them. Is this my burner or is this the dvds I have tried several of the new bunch to no avail.

Definitely some are better than others. You need to look at the manufacturer though, not the brand. You can use something like DVD Identifier to check out who each was made by.
The burner (and firmware) also make a difference though since some will handle a given media better than others (possibly by auto reducing the write speed). -
Take a look at http://www.nomorecoasters.com for a discussion on this subject. I believe this website is run by one of the forum regulars here.

Contrary to the conventional wisdom on this forum, the problem is probably your DVDwriter. Your DVDwriter is supposed to alter the way it burns DVDs based upon the media.
If there is no obvious physical defect in the media coating, your writer should use appropriate techniques for that media.
Among the reasons for "none" of a given media type to burn properly are:
1. There is no entry in the drive firmware for that media and the default strategy is WRONG for the media. The more responsible hardware vendors update their firmware. Check for an update from the supplier of your DVD writer.
2. The drive manufacturer did not test with that media and the required write strategy has not been implemented properly, even though there is a firmware entry.
3. The drive is incapable of accurately implementing the drive strategy, the laser power, write angle or other parameter required may not be within the capability of a particular drive.
You can consider replacing your writer or stick with brands of media which work in your writer.
There are drives on the market which will burn just about any media with good results, but given the nature of the specifications for writeable DVDs, a new blank could be created today which will not work on a particular writer. -
Hmmm, let's analyze your post.

(Oh... Canadian... I think that I see the problem (JUST KIDDING!!!)). Your "iM" isn't a word (in the English language, anyway). I think that you are trying to convey that you are a Canadian, so the first person singular form should be "I am", or the contraction, "I'm". Notice the apostrophe ('). We usually use these when we form a contraction. You seem to be ignorant of that necessity. This is also evident in your word "CANT", which I believe that you want to say "cannot", or the contraction "can't".
So, yes, the OP did post a question asked and answered many times in the past, so he showed his ignorance. However, YOU are the one who looks like an idiot (REtupid, or in your terms, "stupit"). However, ignorance can be fixed... stupidity is forever.

machinehead81,
The simple truth is that all media don't work with all drives. If the Magnavox DVD-Rs don't work in your drive, some other media will, as you've already experienced. If you follow the advice given by jman98 and celtic_druid, you'll be in a better position to choose what media to get next. Once you find what media works best in your system, just stick with that kind.

If it's the Magnavox 16x DVD-R then it could be a CMC MAG.AM3 media code. Any way that's what I got when I purchased 16x Magnavox media. My NEC 3520 & LG 4163 didn't like this media too much, but it seems to burn OK in my Pioneer DVR-111 & LiteOn LH-18A1P. Also CMC media is generally not considered to be good media, but so far with the right burner these disc's seem to be working fine for me. What brand and model of DVD Writer are you using? Not listed in your profile.

A further followup.
There are no firm rules as to what consititutes "good" media. Recent posts on this forum have complained of problems with 16x TY media on certain drives. Earlier complaints have been attributed to "counterfeit media".
Reports of media success or failure are wholely dependant on the DVDwriters used. The only large scale data collection I am aware of, by VSO Software (available through the guides on this site) fails to support the categorization of media included on some websites.
If the media performs well in your burner and can be read in all of the readers you need it to, it is probably "good" media.
The media reports on this site, show wide variations of experience with so-called "crap" media based on DVDwriter and firmware revision.
Many of the companies which rebrand "crap" media with their name are prestigious companies with excellent reputations. There must be a reason other than greed for their willingness to place their name on these products. The reason is simple, the media meet all required standards. Furthermore, the masses of users do not have trouble with their media - they are not suffering massive warranty costs or product returns.
We have an arrangement in which we receive returned product from office superstores. We can see no pattern to the returns, not surprising because we have no clue what writer was being used. All of the unused blanks in returned spindles appear to burn properly in our LG drives.
Curiously almost all of the CDs we have seen in the last 2 weeks have been relabeled TY, and they do not show any problem either.
