We have cctv at work and want to watch the archived recorded files back on a standalone player does anybody no of one?

Based upon the topic title, you seem to have MJPEG video. You might convert the files to DivX and use one of the many DivX/DVD players (DVP-642 comes to mind but there are newer ones, I believe).
Alternatively, use ffmpegX or MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to H264 (they'll be smaller in MB) and play on your Mac/PC or in an iPod (or your TV when connected to the iPod). The AppleTV will let you play such files directly from yourMac to your TV. (Probably not the MJPEG, though.)
