Alright, I'll be honest here I don't know if the duplication/dropping of frames is my problem. I'm about as newb as they come. Heres my full issue, with a lot of detail so you can point out any mistakes I'm making.

I used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVDs onto my computer. I made them 700MB. As I said, I'm using ConvertXtoDVD. When I first tried to make a DVD the video was choppy. It wasn't so much a consistant slow framerate, but it would be normal for a few seconds, and then slowwwwwwwww for a few seconds. (I'm burning from the VTS files if that matters.)

I tried a few more, changing the burn speed to see if that made a difference. Same thing. Weird choppyness.

Finally last night I burnt one that wasn't choppy at all. However... No audio what-so-ever. I got excited that the video was at least normal, and tried another with the exact same settings.

(The movie I burnt was 99 minutes, and I'm using 120 minute DVD+R's)
Again, the video was choppy and slow, yet I had audio. For the first time I scrolled through the log of events and I see this:
    5,000 frames dropped.
    41,000 frames duplicated.

Now, I'm hella noobish... but that seems like a whollllllle lot of duplication. I would assume that is why I'm getting slow choppy parts of the movie every few seconds.

What I can't figure out is why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it matters, I'm using "DVD+R For data and video 4.7 GB/120 min." I'm burning with a Sony external DVD burner. I can get more information on the burner if you need that.

I can pay you back for your help in free drink coasters! I have enough for everybody!

TBH your post doesn't make much sense. You used DVD Decrypter to rip a DVD and it ended up 700MB, how did you do that? Also why are you using ConvertXtoDVD if you already have the original DVD?

What did you make 700MB? If you are making dvd backups use somehting else like dvd shrink instead of convertxtodvd. Or are you converting from 700mb avi files?

Another help forum recommended ConvertXtoDVD. As I said, I am one hell of a newb. I have movies that I would like to burn that I do NOT have the original for, as well as copying my own movies.

I'd like to figure out how to both copy straight from DVDs, and how to burn DVDs that I only have on my computer.

I think I confused DVD Decrypter with another program that I was using to make them into AVI files so i could watch them on my computer. Forget that 700MB thing. I wasn't thinking.

The 700MB thign was me being dumb. It was me making them into AVI files, but I'm trying to burn the VTS files.

So DVD Shrink will work to just copy the DVDs I already have?

Ok, So I tried copying a DVD with DVDShrink, as Baldrick recommended. I left the room after Nero started burning it, and when I came back it said the burn process had failed. I'm trying another just to make sure it wasnt some random fluke.

I don't understand why I'm having so many issues with this.

It's also really confusing because every help forum i go to has 900 people each telling me to use different programs. At this point I have DVD Decrypter, ConvertXtoDVD, Auto Gordian Knot (which just turns VTS into AVI), DVD Shrink, 3 different burning programs, and a whole bunch of movies in like 3 different formats each on my computer.

I think my biggest problem is that everywhere I go I'm being told something different.

I think you should start by telling what you want to do... seems that you're not telling the full story. Responses usually reflect problem description. You tell crap and this is what you will probably get in return.

Ive been as descriptive as possible with my problem. I always am. I'm not "telling crap". I'm trying to include dumb details in case I'm just making a dumb error

The 2 things I would like to do are:
    1) Back up DVDs I have
    2) Burn DVDs from other media files because I don't have some of the DVDs available.

I started out by reading tutorials. It explained how to rip the DVDs, and then had me converting them to .avi format before burning them.

When i ran into problems I couldn't solve on my own I went to a help forum. They told me I should use ConvertXtoDVD and talked about it like it was a miracle program that could take everything I had and turn it into DVDs. the problems I have with it are that it's dropping and duplicating so many frames that the movie is too fucked up to watch. Also, It will onyl let me copy DVDs if I'm using Dual Layer DVDRs. Those are too expensive to keep making coasters out of.

Now here Im being told that I don't want to be using ConvertXtoDVD.

So I just tried DVDShrink. That seems to be fine for copying DVDs. (Although i just tried one and the burn failed part way through. Im going to try another one in a bit.)

So, several help forums, piles of useless partially burnt DVDs, and many tutorials later.... I am here.

I don't know what more information to give you. I have been trying to be as detailed as I can.

    Seems you have several issues:
    1. for conversion from avi (divx, xvid) to DVD ConvertXtoDVD is by far the best and easiest. If you are dropping frames either your PC has problems or the avi's are corrupted (DviXFix can help). There are no miracles here and if it works for everyone here it has to do the same for you unless there are some special circumstances

    2. backing up DVD is done by ripping (DVDFabDecrypter) and then resulting files have to be shrunk to size. This is when you use DVD Shrink final format has to be DVD-5 single layer disk unless you WANT to go DVD-9 route with DL disks
    3. burning is a separate issue

You may be having general PC problems as you cannot complete any of the tasks successfully. You would have to resolve them first.

There are plenty of COMPLETE guides taking you step by step through the process, just refer to GUIDES menu item.

TBH you are asking the most basic of questions, we can't tell you in easier terms than the guides that have been recommended to you. What's the difference between reading a guide and reading a guide that's posted in this thread?

Btw, you were told to not use ConvertXtoDVD because YOU said you were backing-up DVD's.
