Hi, I just registered about 2 minutes ago, so I can only post in Newbie/General discussions until tomorrow. However, I'm really worried about my dvd burner, so I'm asking for help here, and I hope it is not too horrible a thing to do.

I bought an HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook computer in September of 2006. It has a Pioneer dvr K16 8x DVD+/- R/RW drive with dual layer support, which I hear to be unreliable. The computer came with a trial version of Sony burner software which I never use. I installed Nero 6 Ultra.

I tried several times to burn a data disc DVD at 8x and then 6x, never putting more than 3 GB of data on a disc. The DVD would seem to burn perfectly fine (no buffer issues, nothing) until the very end (when 99% or 100% complete). Then I would always get an error message that says "invalid field in command" then "disc-at-once failed." Afterwards, the discs would come out completely blank, as if they had never been used at all.

Nero 6 Ultra works perfectly fine on my desktop computer, so I am worried that something is wrong with the Pioneer drive on this notebook computer.

Has anyone here experienced similar problems? Can anyone offer an explanation?

The error log from Nero would be helpful. It tells exactly why the burn failed. But from your description, it does indeed sound like a bad drive.
