Okay I'm stumped. First of all, here's my setup:

    Latest AviSynth - 2.57, build Dec. 31, 2006
    Windows Media Player 6.4
    VirtualDubMOD 1.5.10.1 (build 2366)
    ffdshow rev. 802 Jan. 20, 2007

I'm trying to run a Nero Digital movie trailer through AviSynth. Only the audio plays in WMP 6.4 and VirtualDubMOD kicks out an error, stating that there is no video stream in the file. The file plays fine directly in WMP 6.4 so I know I have the proper codecs installed. And oh yeah...I also have the latest version of Haali Media Splitter installed. If more info is needed please let me know.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Give us a gspot screenshot of the source video and a copy of the script you're attempting to use.

I suspect this is why you can't get a good read through avisynth, however the fact that you have 228 video codecs loaded leads me to suspect that you've installed a codec pack. Codec packs often lead to conflicts causing results like this. In general you want to clean out all of your codecs and then only install what's needed as needed.

    Agreed.

What would be the best (not necessarily the easiest) way to clean out codec packs even if they've been un-installed through Add/Remove Programs?

Many codec packs leave a lot behind when uninstalled using Add/Remove Programs. The codec manager/remover I've seen suggested here most often is Codec Sniper.

I have seen this get recommended a few times. Not as straight forward as Codec Sniper, but apparently more reliable
