I have a Samsung 1TB hard drive connected to the USB port on this TV with MP4 files that mostly I have ripped myself from my DVD collection.

I have converted them in Avidemux with H.264 with AAC audio codecs. Some play fine but ones that are longer than 2 hours in length stop playing before the end. If I view the same files on my PC however they play fine.

The weird thing is that a couple of films that I have downloaded, that are in the same format and longer than 2 hours, play fine all the way through.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

How big are the files? Some players might have problem with files bigger than 1gb/2gb/4gb.

And please post the full details from the mp4 that doesn't play until the end. Use mediainfo.

Thanks for the replies. I think i may have worked out what the problem is, well a solution anyway. The MP4s that are stopping before the end (irrelevant of actual file size but longer than two hours in length) all seem to be ones that wouldn't rip in DVD Decrypter so I used DVD Fab 9.

Yesterday I downloaded AnyDVD and then re-ripped one of the films using Decrypter.
This morning the resulting MP4 plays to the end.

Before i get too excited I'll try another one today and see if that works as well!!

Well I thought that had fixed it but I re-coded a log film, 'Private Ryan', and it stops well before the end

Instead of loads of faffing around would I be better off just getting a media player like the WD and connecting that to a spare HDMI socket on the TV, rather than relying on the TV's built in media player, which is obviously not up to it?

Unfortunately consumers have assumed that media players inside TVs are "plays anything" type players and in reality they are not. We get posts all the time from people asking why they can't play their files on their TV where the same files would play fine on a WD player. I bought a first generation WD player years ago (maybe 5 - not sure) when they first came out and it is one of the best expenditures of money I've ever had in my life. And your player is better than mine, so I'm sure you will be pleased with the purchase.
