I was directed here from the Maximum PC forums in hope that you can help with with a problem that I have. I have bought a DVD burner so I can pull off data and recordings off my hard drive. The drive appears to work without any issues, but when I made a DVD to play recordings on my TV, it always plays back with a studder.

I know this is from the encoding process, but I am unable to remove the studder from the recordings.

I am using Nero 7, which encludes Vision 4.5.

    My system specs are:
    AMD XP 2700+
    1.25GB Ram
120GB 7200RPM Hard Drive (40 GBs remain, but I can free up another 40 if need be)

I have tried to encode 1 DVD movie, 1 TV capture (stand up show), and a 15 min cartoon from adultswim fix. The cartoon seems to be the only thing that dosent have the studder, but I assume that is cause its only 15 mins, vs 90 mins for the other 2.

I have all programs closed that I dont need and I have 800+ MB of RAM free when I start.

I know that it is part of the encoding process, cause I would save to the HD and then view in the editor. I started this step cause I didnt want to keep wasting DVDs, though im wasting 90-120 mins for each encode.

I have defragged my harddrive before I tried again and posted this with the same effects. The studder is there from the beginning to the end of the recording and its steady.

Is there something that I could be doing wrong or am I limited by my dated hardware?

You're limited by crap software. As you don't mention the file types of your source material, I can only suggest heading over to the CONVERT section left, and look up "???" to DVD and start reading.
If you're not the guy who likes reading manuals, try convertx2dvd - it handles most input formats.

    All 3 are AVI formats.

I DLed TMPGEnc, but sadly im not savy enough to know the different settings (hence why I like the dummy settings in nero), but I havent tried TMPGEnc yet.

I will DL convertx2DVD and see how that works.

If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Well I tried the Convertx2DVD and after 60 mins, I checked the file in a view and they worked perfectly.

No studders, no pauses, and still good quality.

    Thank you for your help.
