  1. hello people. i am trying to load a .sub file on media player classic after opening a file. i also read previous posts so i know that the output is suppose to be on VMR9 (renderless). so once i have opened the video file and it has begun playing in the background, i go to file>load subtitles> and select the .sub file i have. and thas it no error no nothing. but wen i go to navigate>subtitle language its grey. i can't even select it. this tells me that the subtitles never got loaded. i also didn't see any subtitles while the ppl in the video are speaking. wats wrong?

Try to open your .sub file in Subtitle Workshop to see if you have a textual form of a subtitle. Try to convert it to .srt format and load again in MPC.
But the best and easiest subtitle support in recent players, you will find in KMPlayer.
GOM player is the other fine option, as well.

Make sure the video and sub file have the same name, if they do. Install VobSub , it should pick up idx/sub, srt, ssa, and ass formats. I also have MPC set to overlay mixer lol

Typically, if subtitle workshop can't open the file, then the file is corrupt. Which would also explain why is doesn't work with MPC. Try to find another copy.

Open the file with a text editor (eg, Notepad).

If you see binary garbage, then you have a bitmap /image subtitle. Subtitle Workshop can only use text format subtitles.

Try DVDSubedit, it can open bitmap subs, and OCR them to text. Do spellcheck after doing that, OCR isn't perfect.

I found once that with using a sub file (sorry I know it was textual but don't remeber the format) that the sub wasn't working because it was not the correct format.

Basically when I opened it in note pad I saw like timing and words starting from 00:00:00:00 however at the top I saw

    Sub for blah blah blah
    Encoded by Enzo
    Some other stupid message.

After making a copy of the file I deleted anything that was like what was in the rest of the file. It worked after that.
