Hello,
In Canada:
I can't seem to find a widescreen tv 32-37 inch that has pal support i want to be able to play pal & ntsc dvd thru the inputs (svideo / component). It alos has to be a tv that has hdmi (hdcp) for when i upgrade the satellite receiver & dvd player / support for hdcp (blu ray)
any ideas??
i have been looking at lg /toshiba & panasonic but most models seem to be ntsc only for the inputs
I allready have a dvd player that support progressive scan pal & ntsc
and have a number of pal dvds
- Thanks
Kevin

I guess I'm confused - doesn't the pal get passsed on thru the multiregion dvd player to ntsc??? I thought that was why we can use pal discs in ntsc land?
Maybe that is a bit understated.... I don't have an hdtv so I can't tell you from experience on that end. i just know that my standard tube tv can display a pal disc from a pal capable dvd player. I would assume the same would be true in the high def world.
Maybe eddv or fulcilives can chime in on this one. They both have hdtv's.
Or anyone elsse with an hdtv?? Can you play pal discs with a multiregion player without problems???Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
i guess i am confused also
all i know is that it works with my rear projection dvd fine but i am not sure if that is because it supports pal & ntsc or if it is just ntsc and my dvd player is converting somehow???
i don't want to buy a tv for the bedroom that i cannot do the same
nothing in the manual of any of the lcd tvs i looked at say anything about pal so i am unsure about the technical details - looking for some expertise here -
is there a model that supports pal / ntsc - still searching with no luck

I have the same question. Right now I have a Philips DVD recorder that says it supports PAL. My TV is a 27" CRT. I'm looking to upgrade to an LCD, but need to be able to play PAL and NTSC DVDs. Trying to play PAL DVDs on my CRT results in a B&W image that is shifted to, and off, the bottom of the screen. So I've been trying to find specs for LCD TVs that show if they support PAL or not.

It would be ultimately cheaper to buy a NTSC only HDTV type LCD and just buy a high quality DVD player that does PAL to NTSC conversion.
One of the very best (at any price) is the Oppo Digital DV-981HD which can be bought direct at the Oppo Digital website for $229.00 US Dollars (plus shipping). Considering the quality of this DVD player that is actually a very good price point.

maybe, but maybe not. If the LCD TVs support PAL format, then the cheapest solution is that the TV I'm already planning on buying already supports PAL and I have to buy nothing more. But if the LCD (or plasma) doesn't, then I can still, rather inconveniently, use my laptop.
I'm going to try this on my mother's 37" LCD and report back.
