  1. I am trying to burn some episodes in VOB format to DVD. I inserted them into TMPGenc DVD Author but the file sizes are HUGE and i can only fit 2 episodes onto one dvd

I am currently rendering them with Vegas to mpeg but that is going to take 20+ hours to do them all

Is theree any way to reduce size of vobs?

VOB size isn't your issue. VOBs can be a maximum of 1000MB, and split as required by the authoring tool. The secret is using the correct bitrate when you encode to mpeg2. Get this wrong, and you won't fit.

You can author a disc that is too large, then use DVD Shrink or DVD Rebuilder to reduce the size, however you are better off if you get the size right in the first place.

Use a bitrate calculator to make sure you set up your encoder correctly. There are several on the Tools section to your left.

  5. They were created using DVD Decrypter , in INFO mode and getting the vob files that were about 40 minutes long..

They are all about 1900mb each

The default split is 1048,574kbs .

If no split is defined using multiple clip's , then it could be anything , but the value would be less than .

It is possible to create vob's greater than the standard's as well , just as in using vobedit to join them .

If minidvd , I'd advise against using dvdshrink to reduce the size ... it will stuff them ... instead use rejig .

As for dvddecrypter , you may have unchecked the "no split" feature , that's why they exceed the default value's .

Again, where did they come from ?
Have you recorded these yourself, or are they from a box set ?

Regardless, you can either put two to a disc, or re-encode them to a smaller size. If they are 45 minute episodes, I wouldn't put more than 2 to a disc anyway.

Simplest way, open them in TDA, use Add Video to import the VOBs, create you menu, compile, then use DVD Rebuilder to re-encode them to size. Much simpler and faster than doing it through Vegas

Not familiar with TMPEG authorinsg software, but if it's the same as others I've used, you should have an option to output to folders on your Hard Drive rather than direct to a blank DVD. Then there is no worry about the size.
Once that is done you can load that into DVDShrink, and it will adjust it and output a "DVD friendly" size.
Since your source files are straight from DVD, I think this would be your best bet, just try not to make it have to shrink too much or you will notice the quality difference.
    Hope this helps.
