I'm trying to edit footage where the title was left on the whole time. I'd like to only have it there for the first 10-20 seconds of the scene and then be gone. Is it recorded on a special area of the tape (like the audio track) and thus removable, or are they part of the pixels and permanent?

It's the ones on your home camcorder where you can put things like the date, "Happy Holidays", etc. It's right in the lower third of the video so cropping is not an option.

Do you try a delogo or subtitle removal filter, however you will probably end up replacing the text with a blur instead.

  5. I've been in exactly your situation and have had fairly good results using VirtualDub and the filter DeLogo 1.3.2 by Karel Suhajda. You should be able to Google it. It's not too complicated to set up, although a little time consuming. Worth the trouble if it is valuable footage.

There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Wow! Thanks a lot for the great info. I'm just starting to do some of our old tapes and after I get the process down can start putting an ad out for transfer services.
