With newer revisions of this software out, is it now possible to select which titles to "steal" space from, or is it still the larget one that is considered the main title? I'd like to re-encode some episode DVD's that have the episodes as separate titles, and choose just the extras to steal space from.

As far as I know it takes the largest VTS and steals from the others. I do the same thing, I use TmpGenc DVD Author 1.5.x.x and take three 45 minute episodes (+/-) and maybe add extras depending on the size total of all of the episodes, I prefer to keep compression to a minimum as I have a 51" TV. DVDShrink lets you set the compression level of any part of the video compilation you choose. Its a tradeoff though as for the most part I like the output of DVD-RB better. If you are reauthoring with TmpGenc DVD Author 1.5.x.x stick with DVD-RB 0.97 free or earlier (or the comparable Pro version) as there is a bug and you will get skips (with the 2 free encoders included or CCE Basic, I tried all 3). If you aren't reauthoring, experiment with DVDShrink first and see if the quality suits your needs.

I am using DVD RB-Pro now, which has an option to select which VTS to apply half D1 encoding to. I have used this on several occasions when doing episodic discs. However the is no option to select which VTS get extra compression.

Does it let you select multiple VTS's to apply Half D1 to? Lets say you have 3 VTS's that are extras and 3 that are episodes, can you select the 3 that are extras and Half D1 them?

Yes, however you don't have control over the bitrate for these VTS. I don't know if DVD-RB is smart enough to work out that half-D1 may need less bitrate. I have used it to fit 200 minutes on a DVD5 by setting all VTS' to half-D1 (it was a 4 episode per disc series). This worked in my case because it was an older series and the quality while good, was already soft.
