Wrong codepage when the subtitle was rendered? Or perhaps your player doesn't support Arabic?

LG players do not support arabic subtitles except in a rare instance when there is a .sub and an .idx files with the film in the same folder ( I wonder what this combination means) , but with .srt forget it I even contacted the dealer in Egypt

SUB and IDX are an image format, i.e. the text is already rendered as an image, so if it works at all it doesn't matter what language they are. But SRT, SSA, etc are text files and the player has to do the rendering.

Try to generate VobSub files (sub/idx) using SubtitleCreator and your srt file.
Give the sub and idx files the same names as your avi file and give it a try.

    Cheers
