Back up Episode DVD on a Mac?

Is this possible? I ripped a episode disc of Rome down to my hard drive, and now want to back it up with only the episodes. Is this possible on a mac? And if so what software would do that the easiest?

DVD2ONex's Title Mode is best for this.
You could join just the title's that contain the epiodes
into one DVD video_TS folder, where the episodes
play in order, one after the other.

DVDRemaster Pro will allow you to select all the episodes, deselect stuff that you do not want and keep the menu if you wish. That is what I use for all my episode dvd's.

what advantage does dvdremaster have over dvd2one?

then there is something amiss in your settings.
In Join mode, the disc should playh the next title
seamlessly, one after the other.

How to make a joined disk?


Step 1 - Copy the movies you want to join to your harddisk

Most DVD's are encrypted and need to be decrypted before you can process them with DVD2oneX. Since decrypting DVD's can be against the law in your country, this part is not included in DVD2oneX. You will have to search the internet to find a program that can do this job.
Although DVD2oneX should also work with files that are preprocessed (ifo mode), it is strongly recommended to use file mode.
Make sure all options are disabled, so for instance do not enable Multi Angle Processing!
Do not merge the vob files to one big file, keep them seperate.
Step 2 - Process the movie
-Select Join from the Copy mode popup-button. Now the join-drawer will open on the left site of the mainwindow.


By default one DVD title (# 1) is available and this one is called the main title.
-Select the wanted compression Ratio, select the output option you want
-Select Advanced Navigation if you want to control navigation between titles using your remote control. This feature might not work correctly with specific dvd players, or may have some unwanted side effects. It is recommended to try first with a rewritable disk. For more information check join mode .


If MKISOFS is installed you can select the create image checkbox. In this case a DVD-disk image is created after the processing is done.


-* Select the source directory. If you select a valid (VIDEO_TS) source directory the titlelist will show the available titles and a drawer will open showing the avalable audio tracks, subtitles and angles.


In the titlelist select the title that you want..
Select the audio- and subtitle-tracks you want to include in your copy. It is recommended to include only those audio tracks you really need. This saves additional space for the video stream.


You can set the default audio- and subtile-track by dubble klicking on it. After you have done this a small arrow sign will appear in the first column of the list. To deselect just dubble click on the selected track again.
-Select the angle you want to keep. Usually the first one is the one you want.
Now you can add another title to the joinlist by pressing the + button and repeat from *
You can delete a title by clicking on the - button or pressing the backspace or delete key on the keyboard.

Seamless Join
In Join mode a black and silent gap is inserted between the joined titles.


From of the second title you can check the Seamless Join checkbox. Now the audio- and subtitle-track selections (including defaults) are copied from the title to which the title is seamlessly joined..
The advantage of the Seamless Join mode is that the joined titles are played after each other without a gap.
You can mix Join and Seamless Join.
-Then click the Start button and a drawer will open to select the destination directory. DVD2oneX will automaticaly create a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directory at the chosen directory.
Press select and processing begins.

Symbols
There are four types of symbols that can appear on the row (under the # collumn) of a join title.
OK, the title is correct configured
Warning, the title has no audio selection
Bad, the title is not correctly configured. Probably a wrong title or source is chosen (cannot be seamless joined)
No Cell/Chapter is selected in the Cell tab.

Step 3 - Select the cells you want to keep
By selecting the Cell selection tab on the selections drawer the list with available cells becomes visable. Now you can select the cells you want to keep in your movie. With the selection popup at the bottom of the drawer you can change between Cell, Chapter or Layer selection. Using the buttons All and None you can quickle select or deselect all cells. By default all cells are selected (full movie).

With cell selection you can also create a "SPLIT DISK"
To do so, first, choose Layer from the popup menu and select (check) the first layer. Now process (press Start) your movie and call this output ie DISK1. When finished select select (check) the second layer. Process the movie again and call this output ie DISK2. Now burn the results (DISK1 and DISK2) to two disks and you have a splited disk (see step 4).

Step 4 - Burn the movie
If Create image was selected a DVD_TITLE.img file is found at the destination directory. This image can be easily burned using the Apple Disk Copy tool.
Follow these instructions to burn a disk image file to a DVD-R disc.

1. Open Disk Copy (/Applications/Utilities).
2. Choose File > Burn Image. Note: Don't open the disk image file before choosing this command.
3. A navigation dialog box appears. Locate and select the disk image file.
4. Click Burn.
5. When prompted, insert a blank disc into the disc drive.
6. Click Burn.

Depending how the After Burning option is configured, the disc will eject or appear on the desktop when the disc is successfully completed.

If MKISOFS is not installed, DVD2oneX does always deliver dvd compliant files. This means that you can burn the movie with any dvd recording software. The dvd compliant files can be found in the VIDEO_TS directory at the destination directory.
Make sure that the files are in a VIDEO_TS directory.
Make sure that the disk name, directory name and file names are in CAPITALS.
Add an empty AUDIO_TS directory for more settop DVD player compatability.

So in your example:

1.RIP DISC OF ROME TO YOUR HD.
2. Open up DVD2ONEX
3. Select Movie only/Join option from main window.
4. Navigate and select the ripped Video_TS on HD.
5. Select the first title of the Ripped Video_TS folder.
6. Click the add ("+") button at lower left,
7. select and add the second title of the ripped folder Video_TS.
8. repeat steps 6 and 7 until all totles are added.
9. Click "Seamless Join" option starting witht he second title on,
to enable Seamless playback of each title .
10. Create disc Image of this new disc to HD.
11. Open and test in Apple's DVD Player before burning to disc.

The option works perfectly, I've used it myself to make "greatest"
episode complimations for family and friends off of various disc
sets I own ( BTAS, Forever Knight, Titus, Chappelle Show) and
it works. Carefully go back over the steps and try again.
Also, are you using DVD2OneX v. 2.1 or higher?

what advantage does dvdremaster have over dvd2one?

DVD Remaster Pro (as stated before) allows you to strip unnecessary stuff and back up the episodes with the menu intact or, it will allow you to put, in the case of say a 4 episode disc, 2 episodes each on 2 different discs while keeping the menus thus avoiding compression.
