Years ago I was setting up to cap from DVR with an old iMac. Bought me an 80GB WD HDD and used Mac Drive to format it to use via USB
Few days ago I found said HDD but forgot I used it in that way and could not figure out why I could not get it to work right.
I could not see my files I KNEW where on there.
So after pulling my hair I finally said screw it and formatted it (quick) on my Win7 machine.
Well it just hit me and I remembered all I needed to do was install Mac Drive and I would be fine. But my brain is not what it used to be as I get older so forgot.
Will it be possible to just use software recovery and get my files back (have not written a thing to HDD yet) or do I need to format BACK to Mac and then use a Mac recovery software ?

If your quick format didn't write over anything, just deleted it, it's easy just look up a recovery tool. If it wrote over everything you're probably SOL but I may be wrong.

...well, you did say "screw it"...
I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah. And since you did, at the very least, change the filesystem (from HFS+ to NTFS), I don't hold much hope for the files still being accessible or there, either, even with a quick format. (But, I could be wrong.)
