I watch a lot of TV shows in DivX/Xvid format whilst on the train home from work. As I kind of have to get off the train at a certain point I often stop watching a programme half way through.

If I was watching a DVD my player remembers where I watched to, and I can restart it from there. It won't do this with Video files though, is there any player that would memorise where I have viewed a file to, even if the file was playing from a memory stick?

Maybe add a bookmark using vlc, mpc or bsplayer. See https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=313205&highlight=

Firstly, thank you for the advice.

I have looked at MPC and this does not seem to have bookmarks.

VLC does have bookmarks, but they are not retained between viewing and I think this is going to be my problem here.

Media Player Classic does have bookmarks, and it does allow you to save a specific time-point within the video as well. With a video loaded and at the spot you want to bookmark, go to the Favorites menu and pick "Add to Favorites". There should be a checkbox in the resulting window that you can use to specify whether or not you want to save the current time along with the bookmark as well.
