The quickest methods generally produce the lowest quality results. Format conversion is very easy to do badly, and the results are jerky zooms and pans, audio sync issues and generally a pig's breakfast on a disc.

However, if quick is what you want, ConvertXtoDVD is probably the most reliable. You will still get the jerkiness as it creates frames that don't exist in order to get the correct framerates, but you may be happy with results.

You have a couple of other choices though. The first is to do the conversion the right way. This guide and subsequent series of posts covers the DGPulldown method. There will be a lot here you probably don't need, but the basics are simple. Encode to the right resolution for your target, without changing your source framerate, then use pulldown flags to fool the player. The results are as good as you will get, without all the pitfalls. It works for 23.976 to 25 fps, and 25 fps to 29.97 fps. You cannot use it to convert 29.97 fps NTSC to PAL. Nothing does that nicely.

Your second option is to author two discs - one PAL, one NTSC. Discs are cheap.

Your third option is to author an out-of-spec DVD. DVD Lab Pro will allow you to create a non-compliant disc with both PAL and NTSC material. They have to be in different VTS's, and they may not play in all players.

That's not a simple question. There are a lot of differences between the formats and they don't really convert that well. If you are looking for simple, try ConvertXToDVD. Best is usually no conversion and having a player that can display both formats.

Otherwise look here and you will see a variety of conversion methods: https://www.videohelp.com/convert#4;41

From that list, probably using the DGPulldown method is the easiest, but not always the best.

i usually use vso divx to dvd and dvd shrink to make compilation discs with no problem whatsoever using both pal and ntsc....its just that im trying to use TMPGEnc dvd author and making menu's..it wont allow me to use both.
After reading about it i think i might just make seperate discs.
Thanks for your help once again guys!

I tried DGpulldown and I was not happy with the results. AS it's been said before - there still does not seem to be a good software-based conversion system unless you're satisfied with a somewhat jerky result on your standalone. Not for me, though.

And what were you not happy with? You are only using progressive sources for this method aren't you? Using DGPulldown is probably the most efficient method available, as it cuts down on the amount of steps. But if you are still not satisfied you can always do the slowdown method and stretching the audio. There are software out there that can do it - any combination of avisynth, a decent mpeg 2 encoder, plus dgpulldown. But you have to have knowledge in how it works, what your sources are, and understand the concept fully and not half-ass it.
