  1. I had trouble recently when burning an .mpg file to VCD.
The burn seemed to go fine, however when I tried to play
it in my standalone DVD player it froze up ten seconds in.

Upon further investigation, I learned this was due to some
quirk in my player (Philips 710) which, when I encounters a fairly
large 'glitch' in the file, causes it to freeze up.
I was recommended to use MpegCorrector to fix this and that it should play fine

I ran it through, it seemed to have some effect, as the processed file was somewhat
    larger than the original.

But, when I tried to burn it(using Nero), I received a message that the file
type wasn't recognised, or something similar.

Any suggestions? Is there an alternate Mpeg Repair program?

Another "trick" is using the merge/cut facility in Mpeg tools section of TMPGEnc. Load the whole file and just use a new name at the bottom for output file. Choose the correct "type" in the pull down menu and press correct and then start. This will generate a new mpeg file which in most cases will work.
