I've just transitioned to High Def and am using an HD20 Directv receiver. Also have a Yahama receiver (HTR5930) and sony DVD recorder (RDR-GX300). HD20 receiver is hooked to Samsung HD TV via HDMI cable (works great, beautiful picture). I have a Sony DVD/CD player run to the other HDMI on the TV and also run through the Yamaha for CD. This works well for both DVDs and allows me to shut off TV when playing cds. Problem is how do I hook up the DVD recorder to this setup. I have component on the HD20, Yamaha receiver, and Recorder as well as S-videos and RCAs. Have tried to simply connect HD20 to recorder using set top box controller, but that didn't work. (brought it to recorder via line 3). Don't know if it's the code for the HD20 that's not working or what. Also tried running it through the receiver but it can't find stations. Any advice.

  2. When the recieving device is setup up to properly output hires signal through HDMI or component cables the S-vid and composite vid signal are NOT output. Very few receivers have the ability to output high and low res at the same time. If you set the reciever to put out 480i to the HDMI you should probably get s-vid/composite sigbal out.
